We hope that you find a rare Christmas treasure! Incredibly complete and wonderful early German Santa in a sphagnum moss / loofah and wooden sleigh pulled by a spectacular reindeer candy container. The sleigh and reindeer back to back equal 17 in length.

It breaks down this way: sleigh is 10 ½ long from back to end of shaft & the reindeer is 6 ½ long from rear hoof to tip of nose & 6 ½ tall (tip of antlers) and over 5 tall to the top of his ears and 5 ¼ tall to the top of Santas head. Santa is in a wool felt tomato soup colored robe trimmed in white, wearing blue wool felt trousers, and carrying a feather tree. He has a bunny fur beard, composition head, hands, and boots, and he is stamped GERMANY on the rear trim of his robe.

He is in great shape except his boots have some crazing. The sleigh is in mint condition and is stamped GERMANY on the bottom. The reindeer is extraordinary in the fact that he has ALL of his trappings: crownpiece, brow band, throatlatch, noseband, reins, harness, trace, backband, pad, collar, girth, kicking strap, bellyband, breast plate, shaft rings, tugs, all made of leatherette and metal and all riveted together. The reindeer also has lead antlers, cotton ears, glass eyes, decorative metal buckles, wooden legs & hoofs, silver covered candy container insert (sign of a high end piece when it was made 100 years ago), and a composition body. The reindeers body is magnificently painted with highlights in cream, tan, brown, and black. His face is highlighted the same way with highlighted eyes, red nostrils, and black mouth and nose. Excellent condition with minor chips to hoofs, a rough spot on the silver candy container insert, and some paint missing from the antlers. This is about as good as early German Christmas items gets.
