Germany Papier Mache & Felt Candy Container Santa Claus Belsnickel & Sleigh Reindeer. A 4 ½ high wool felt Santa Claus with real rabbit fur beard, painted paper mache head & boots, holds a fine Christmas feather tree & drives a 4 X 6 ½ X 2 heavy cardboard sleigh finished with gesso & glitter, & marked GERMANY on the bottom. It also has two metal hooks at the front for optional reins.

The sleigh is in excellent condition except for a surface crack at one rear blade edge but is still solid, & a smaller very faint shallow surface bend at opposite rear blade corner. The Santa candy container head lifts off to reveal a round mint cardboard compartment with original paper stuffing still intact. The legs are wires with the boots attached which still have some snow fibers on them.

The felt shows no sign of wear, stains, moth activity, or flaws, & the same is true of the rabbit fur beard. Santas all-original feather tree is made from a green natural fiber pipe cleaner & is flawless but a little flat in one spot from storage. Wonderful condition & perfect fit for the container head that still opens & closes like the day it was made!

The paper mache face & boots are all-original hand-painted. This Santa candy container is unmarked but definitely antique made in Germany (pre-WWII). This Santa candy container is offered as-found & has been possibly added to the sleigh that is marked GERMANY. The two reindeer are marked almost illegibly with numbers & faint MAN letters from the word GERMANY on oneobviously stamped incompletely at the factory in Germany as was common to these items.

The spelter or pot metal reindeer are 4 ½ high X 5 long & are finished in a beautiful shiny silver original paint with very little loss, & the red eyes are still intact. Their antlers are miraculously flawless, & otherwise there are no cracks, repairs, holes, nor any other flaws. They are amazingly well preserved! The vintage presents are added, the candy canes are vintage, & the adorable miniature velveteen teddy bear is 5-jointed articulated, has ultra suede paw pads, & is exquisitely hand-made by a local master bear artist! I have more fine vintage porcelain, glassware, & antique cut glass listed!
