Antique German Composition Santa Sleigh Reindeer Candy Container Vintage

  
The pieces are made from various materials that were readily available 100 or so years ago (approximately the age of this Christmas decoration). The sleigh, for example, is a type of hard cardboard (typical of vintage candy boxes), covered with paint and glitter.

There are two metal wire hooks in the front of the sleigh to attach the reindeer leads to. These are original to the sleigh and, I imagine, commonly missing with most surviving examples.

The bottom of the sleigh is marked "Germany". It measures 4.5" long, 2" high and 2 wide.

The two reindeer are composition with fabric reins, which are original and still intact with their metal loops at the ends. They have metal antlers and one reindeer has half the right antler missing. Some of the paint has flaked off of the antlers, but the bodies of the deer are nicely painted and intact.

The reindeer measure 4" long and 2" high. Santa has a beautifully painted face. He has a composition body and boots, felt clothing, fur beard and it looks like his tree is green paper. He has wire legs but they cannot be seen underneath his long coat if it is displayed just right.

There are no moth holes in the felt and the color is good. The only condition issue is his boots which are crackled a little and some chips on the back (which would be an easy fix if one desired it). He measures 2.25" high and 4" long in his sitting position.

(I did not try to straighten Father Christmas out for a full length measurement). This fabulous collection of Santa (or Belsnickle), sleigh and reindeer are all original and the overall condition is excellent despite the above mentioned issues and considering the age and fragility of the materials. Kept in a non-smoking home. I will find the appropriate cost and let you know what that will be.
