1920s Vtg German Composition Xmas Candy Container, Santa N Sleigh W Reindeer
This listing is for a Santa in his sleigh, made in Germany, dating to the 1920's. He is made from composition - a combination of glue, sawdust, plaster, and in this case, probably clay. He has a rabbit fur beard, and is a hand made piece of folk art! This one has lots of little presents that have been added - they are wrapped in paper and are from the 1920's.
They are so cute, wrapped in paper with bows. Santa has a tiny feather tree on one side, and no arms. He is in a cardboard sleigh that is covered with faux snow. The sleigh is marked Germany on the bottom.
He has a tiny composition reindeer that is in great condition - slight cracks to the composition at the legs, but none that go through. The little reindeer has both antlers and ears.
There is surface discoloration, but overall both pieces show their age with beauty and charm! The little sleigh with Santa measures 4 3/4" long and stands about 3 3/4" to the top of the Santa. The packages can be removed if you want to add candy. The little reindeer, which has a sticker on the bottom that says Germany, measures 2 3/4" long by 2 1/2" tall.
