Rare Original 1909 HUBLEY Cast Iron Sleigh with Santa & 2 Reindeer Christmas

  
This is the early Antique HUBLEY Cast Iron Sleigh with Santa Drawn by 2 Reindeer. It was Made by Hubley Manufacturing Co. On wheels the Reindeer move in a galloping motion when the sleigh is pulled forward. Original paint on sleigh and reindeer although it has faded and worn off in places. This beautiful and very rare antique cast iron sleigh was one of the early toys made by the Hubley Manufacturing Co of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

It appears in their 1909 "Catalogue of Iron and Steel Toys" on page 33, and has a catalog number of 773 (it does not appear in their 1906 catalog). The appraiser on the show said it was from the 1920s and 30s, but, as mentioned above, it appeared in Hubley's 1909 catalog. The toy measures 17" long, about 7" tall and 3 1/2 wide, and weighs 5 lbs.

The Santa is held in the seat by a cast iron peg and is removable. When the sleigh is pushed or pulled along the floor, the reindeer move up and down as if they are galloping. The paint on the sleigh and and reindeer is all original and shows wear after 110 years.
