Rare1950 Sunkist Orange Christmas Santa Claus Sleigh & Reindeer Display Sign

  

This is a rare and beautiful vintage 1950 Sunkist Orange double sided grocery store Christmas display. It features Santa Claus in his sleigh packed with all sorts of wonderful toys and the traditional Christmas morning oranges enjoyed by countless children for generations before the availability of exotic fruit became common place. The display is lithographed on heavy cardboard and is a clever two piecer that includes a pair of reindeer that are designed to be attached to the sleigh section by string that would act as harnesses. The sleigh section measures 36 long by 27 high (not including the reindeer section) I think the thing I like the most about this piece is that amongst the curls of the sleighs runners and background behind the reindeer is a beautifully rendered orange groves of California and the distant Sierra Nevada mountain range, their peaks covered in snow. Sunkist is a cooperative of fruit growers and they would always insist that there be some representation of the California origins in all of their advertising.
