THE ITEM DESCRIPTION: The Ferdinand Strauss lithographed tin wind-up toy Santee or Santa Claus is in excellent condition, working & in the original box. The toy & the box have patent dates of 1921 & 1923. The toy measures nearly 12 long & 5 1/2 to the top of Santa's head.

The toy is all original including the bells under the heads of the reindeer & maybe even the string reins. This toy has the most outstanding lithography of any toy of the period. The sides of the sleigh are printed like pages from a story book with multiple scenes of Santa, his sled, a Christmas tree, a fireplace & many different toys & dolls.

Bringing it all together are the 2 children sleeping soundly in their bed while dreaming of Santa arriving to deliver toys on Christmas eve. The inside of the sleigh is lithographed like wrapping paper with the traditional green leaves & red berries signifying Christmas. Santa & the 2 reindeer are also finely detailed. The original box is nearly complete & square & firm.

There is a small amount of paper loss on 1 end panel & there are tears in the plain cardboard bottom. A small piece of the bottom that forms the closure is missing. Louis Marx, German tin, composition, Japanese celluloid &.
